Language and Literature in the English Language Classroom

Pionia was invited to attend the first monthly event for teachers and students on the British Council Isle in the main grid of Second Life. There she attended a seminar: the Language and Literature in the English Language Classroom   at the British Council Isle   Small Events Stage, British Council Isle (184, 229, 27) Of course she didn't go by herself she invited her friend Era Lorber a roleplayer from Avilion and was glad to find there her dear friend, Cyber Placebo . She made new friends, too... Artemisa Pessoa , Golondrina Bracken , Nic Streusel and Creed Juran The session was really nice. She got the chance to meet ( London Inventor ) Francesca Beard , who's one of the UK's leading performance poets. You can find some of her work at the BritLit site , they supports a major piece of her performance poetry. ISTE 2010

Last year, Pionia registered to the NECC Ning for ISTE’s conference. Out of curiosity, but this year as they are getting ready for ISTE 2010 conference. She's planning to participate fully in SL. Visiting their new ning, She found out that the ISTE 2010 Conference Ning Network , is where educators interested in educational technology connect to other conference attendees whether they attend physically or virtually to extend the conversations happening at the conference.There she also found this interesting video.     Where she learned about the journey of several educators working and learning in Second Life. Since we now participate in environmental issues and we are promoting green thinking.   OneClimate is an initiative of OneWorld UK , a not-for-profit organization who aim ‘to leverage media innovatively for a fair and sustainable world’. As part of their campaign, they have used a number of social networking tools to create a platform for education and discussion about climate change - including creating a presence in Second Life - OneClimate Island (SLurl) . OneClimate Island provides a space where visitors can meet others interested in climate change and environmental issues from around the world, as well as engage in a number of educational tools and resources. The K-12 Online Conference invites participation from educators around the world interested in innovative ways Web 2.0 tools and technologies can be used to improve learning. This FREE conference is run by volunteers and open to everyone. This year’s conference begins with a pre-conference keynote the week of November 30, 2009. The following two weeks, December 7-11 and December 14-17, forty presentations will be posted online to the conference blog (this website) for participants to download and view. Live Events in the form of three “Fireside Chats” and a culminating “When Night Falls” event will be announced. Everyone is encouraged to participate in both live events during the conference as well as asynchronous conversations. Connectivism and Connected Knowledge 09

It's not too late.. The course has already started but you can still jump in the adventure of getting connected to these ways of approaching learning. You can register to receive course information here . The course will be delivered in the same method as last year: content and conversations will be open. Jokaydia Unconference Newbie Sessions!

Hi, there! Well, I got this invitation in my e-mail box.. of course had to share it with everybody. As usual the first question would be.... Jokadia.. what's that? researching their site we found: "The Island of jokaydia is designed to provide a flexible and dynamic space for educators in Second Life which includes informal and formal meeting spaces, plus a range of interesting objects and tools to explore. Well, this is our first entry.. I knew Pionia would have to get a blog sooner or later... There are so many interesting things to blog about in Second Life. Second Life... What's Second Life? many will ask.. According to their site: " Second Life is a free online virtual world imagined and created by its Residents. From the moment you enter Second Life, you'll discover a fast-growing digital world filled with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity." This is a great short video to tell you some basic things to go for it... Second Life can be anything you want it to be.. But now, what should and educator do in SL? Play games? have an avatar? aren't those things for kids to play with? ... The answer is yes, and no.. Second Life is for everybody. An educators should profit from this great virtual world and be brave and ship off in an adventure in this new world.
